Hey guys, welcome to my digital portfolio. I would like to start off by talking about four key factors present within this portfolio from the course learning outcomes. The first one is being able to compose texts that integrate the student’s stance and language with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation. This can be seen through my exploratory essay, in which I successfully conveyed a summary, analysis and synthesis of the sources I read and needed to interpret into my essay. The second one is being able to Develop strategies for reading, drafting, revising, and editing. At first, when I used to write up drafts, like for say my own essay drafts I would be like oh it’s perfect, but after having it peer-reviewed, I would be able to spot my errors when revising and editing, so I have it improved upon. For example, when I wrote my first draft for the exploratory essay, I kept on typing to the point in which I ended up with a 12 page essay, despite it having a limit of being 5-6 pages. My peer-reviewers pointed me out for this so I went back and fixed it all up. Moreover, when the RCA assignment was given I made sure to read all the instructions and ended up writing a very good paper in which my peers had nothing to say and found it to be a big improvement from my first essay. Furthermore, the way I was able to develop strategies for reading was that before I used to read texts only one time and once I was done, I would question myself like, What did I just read?, so to avoid having to end up like that in readings, I now read the texts two times and along the way I highlight important parts, circle words I don’t understand to search up later on and lastly, make notes in the margins. The third one is being able to locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias; this can be seen through my works cited at the end of my essays in which it shows how I was able to successfully use the ccny library database to back up my essays through the use of reliable sources, like how I provided critical and primary sources used in my RCA essay. Last but not least, the fourth course learning outcome I was able to accomplish and improve upon by working on is being able to practice systematic application of citation conventions. Like, beforehand I did not know the rules of citation and how to implement it properly into my writings. Also another thing I would like to add about is how at the beginning of this semester, when I was writing up my works cited page for our first essay, which was the exploratory essay, I was very confused as I was never taught this before, so I had no clue of it’s format but slowly, moving forward I mastered this by doing my research and asking my professors who provided me assistance, in the end I learned many skills like how it has to be in hanging indent, alphabetical order with the last name coming first, source title, publisher, year, page numbers, etc.
